Blog – I’m on a Boat

There are no secrets to success. It is the result of preparation, hard work, and learning from failure.” -Colin Powell, Former U.S. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff

I’m on a Boat

Welcome to Rev Up Your Business, I’m here with my good friend, Dan Ott of White Willow Designs.

We’re out sailing on Dan’s boat in the beautiful Burlington/Hamilton Harbour. It’s Friday afternoon and just having a little fun relaxing and getting to know each others business a little bit better, and Dan made a really good point about direction…

We’ve been in a bunch of wind and he shared something about it that I thought was pretty relatable to business:

“The shortest distance between two points is not always a straight line; in fact, in sailing, it never is!”

It’s similar with business, when you think you’re going towards a particular goal, and something in the environment or the wind changes, and all of a sudden, where you thought you were going is not where you want to go.
So what do we do? What do we do when the wind takes you where you don’t want to be?
